This sculpture was created to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Okanagan Valley's oldest permanent Euro-Canadian settlement: The Okanagan Mission in Kelowna, BC. It was the Recipient of the Canadian Heritage Legacy Fund, supported by the Okanagan Historical Society, and created in communication and collaboration with Westbank First Nation.
It is intended, in part, to encourage awareness and contemplation of Syilx culture and the impact settlement has had on it. The sculpture features a relief of the Four Food Chiefs of the Syilx people: Black Bear, Salmon, Bitterroot, and Saskatoon, as well as Coyote.
